Seit Tagen, spätestens seit dem schrecklichen Pressefoto mit dem toten syrischen Mädchen am Strand von Bodrum, beschäftigt mich das Thema „Place Called Home“ in Bezug auf Flüchtlinge. Unser Song hatte in seiner Entstehungsgeschichte nie politische Züge in dieser Hinsicht, erhält sie im Moment in meinen Augen aber fast zwangsläufig?! Entwurzelte, Heimatlose, Suchende… Wo war, wo ist, wo wird er sein… ihr „Place Called Home“?
Das Foto „Budapest – under the bridge“ entstand Weihnachten 2008. Ich habe damals lange gezögert auf den Auslöser zu drücken, weil ich nicht sicher war, ob das Bild dieser Obdachlosen mit dem Weihnachtsbaum unter der Brücke so respektvoll wie ich es gemeint habe und nicht voyeuristisch erscheinen kann. Näher herangehen kam aus diesem Grund auch nicht in Frage. Als eines meiner ersten Digitalfotos ist es auch technisch nicht besonders gut. Ich stelle es trotzdem in die Slideshow. Gerade weil es in Budapest aufgenommen wurde, erzeugt es vor dem tagesaktuellen Hintergrund noch mehr Nachdenklichkeit.

For days, ever since the terrible press photo with the dead Syrian girl at the beach of Bodrum, the theme „Place Called Home“ concerns me in regard to refugees. In its genesis our song never has political campaigns in this regard, which in my eyes gets it now almost inevitably?! Uprooted, homeless, seekers … Where was, where is, where it’ll be … their „Place Called Home“?
The photo „Budapest – Under the Bridge“ was taken Christmas 2008. At that time I long hesitated to pull the trigger, because I was not sure if the image of homeless people with their Christmas tree under the bridge appears as respectfully as i meant it and not voyeuristic. For the same reason approaching closer was unquestioned. As one of my first digital photos, it is also technically not very good. Nevertheless I put it in the slideshow. Just because it was taken in Budapest and in the current context it produces even more thoughtfulness.
